Some women have a level blood sugar level (glucose) are

born?
Gestational Diabetes Effects on Baby |
High blood sugar levels in pregnant women can affect
the baby after birth.
Babies born to mothers with diabetes are often born
with size larger than other babies. Internal organs such as the liver, adrenal
glands, and the heart tends to dilate.
Babies like this usually will experience a period where
their low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) shortly after birth, due to
increased levels of insulin in their blood. Insulin is a substance that moves
sugar (glucose) from the blood into the tissues of the body. Baby blood sugar
levels need to be monitored within the first hour after birth 12-24.
A Mother with a less controlled diabetes are also more
likely to experience a miscarriage or birth of their baby but already in a
State does not animate. The process of birth is usually difficult if the baby's
size large. This may increase the risk of injury and other trauma brachial
artery Plexus during childbirth.
If the mother is already suffering from diabetes before
the time of her pregnancy, then her baby has an increased risk of birth defects
if the mother diabetes not controlled properly.
Symptoms
• Skin color or blue speckled
• Rapid heart rate, rapid breathing (signs of lung or
heart failure is not yet perfect)
• Baby's skin yellow
• Do not eat or poor appetite
• Lethargic, weak cry (signs of severe low blood sugar)
• Face swells
• Skin redness
• Shaking shortly after birth
Examination
Before the baby is born:
• ULTRASOUND on mother done the last few months of
pregnancy to assess the development of the baby that the results would indicate
that the baby is sufficiently large for gestational age.
• Lung maturity Test can be performed on amniotic
fluid, if the baby will be born more than 2 weeks before the due date.
After the baby is born:
• The test can indicate whether babies have low blood
sugar levels and low blood calcium.
• Can an Echocardiogram showed cardiomegaly condition
that is abnormal, which can be coupled with heart failure.
Treatment
All infants born to mothers who have diabetes should be
tested to detect symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), even if they
showed no symptoms. If a baby shows one of the symptoms of low blood sugar, a
test can be done for a few days. The test will continue until the baby can
return blood sugar stable while still being given BREAST MILK normally.
In some mild cases, breastfeeding after birth can be
effective to prevent low blood sugar. Low blood sugar levels that are not back
to normal quickly can be treated by administering sugar (glucose) and water
provided through nadi.
Rare cases is when the baby may need help breathing or
drugs to treat diabetes effects the other. High bilirubin levels are treated
with light therapy (phototherapy). In addition, in the case who is also rare,
the baby's blood is replaced with blood from a donor (Exchange transfusion) to
deal with this problem.
Often, the symptoms of which occur in infants will be
gone in a few weeks. However, if the condition of their heart is enlarged, it
will probably need a few months to get rid of.
Possible complications
• Congenital heart defect
• Heart failure
• High bilirubin Levels (hiperbilirubinemia), which can
cause permanent brain damage if not treated
• Lung function has not been perfect
• Neonatal polisitemia (more red blood cells than
normal) that can cause a blockage in the blood vessels or hiperbilirubinemia
• Acute low blood sugar that can lead to permanent
brain damage
• Small left colon Syndrome that can cause intestinal
blockage symptoms
• Died at birth
